The Ascension

Gathering His disciples around a table,
eating a final meal with them,
Jesus said ‘Goodbye’.

It’s to our advantage that He goes away, He says. 

It’s to our advantage that He is lifted up to Heaven. 

How so!

Having known our frail humanity, now He can pray for us!

Having a mission to spread the gospel throughout the world,
we can re-present Him. 

Having a heart to be in history, 
to shape society, 
we can be His presence,
salt in the mix. 

Having brought divinity into our humanity, 
by becoming one of us, 
now He can lift our nature into His divinity, 
as He returns to the heart of the Father. 

Sharing His Spirit with us 
we can learn to love like He loves. 

Loving His Way keeps His commands,
making our hearts a home…..
a home where He and His Father can dwell! 

What peace! What love! What joy!

It’s to our advantage that He goes away. 

As He ascends, He rises into the glory He had with His Father from the beginning,
He can take His Throne and reign!

He can be crowned Lord of lords 
and King of kings,
given a Name higher than all others,
an authority over all,
power to bring all His enemies to their end. 

He can come fully into His own, 
and draw us fully into ours! 

And His!
